Fujitsu Components Europe enhanced its high-capacity thermal printer assembly with more features and print capabilities for expanded use in various self-service, informational and transaction kiosk applications.
The FTP-639USL002 comes standard with an integrated 3-inch (76 mm) thermal print mechanism, an auto guillotine cutter, and either a miniature high-speed serial or USB controller board. Fujitsu has implemented a retractor that can handle unlimited receipt lengths.

SONG and video downloading has become more accessible and user-friendly with the introduction of self-service terminals at Sanity, Virgin and HMV record shops.
Music lovers can choose their favorite tracks and burn a CD after paying at the checkout. Brazin (brazin.com.au), the company behind the three retail chains in Australia, recently launched the "digital kiosks" designed to bring music downloading to the malls. The ATM-like terminals allow shoppers to search, sample and buy songs by the track, album or personalized compilation. The machines burn CDs in five minutes. They also download tracks and music videos directly to Microsoft Windows-compatible storage devices, such as portable music players and flash drives, through a USB port.
However, they are not compatible with iPods because Apple and Microsoft still use different digital rights management systems for their audio files.

FIRM, a provider of software for Market Research (MR) and Enterprise Insight Management (EIM), announced plans to launch a new module of Confirmit for onsite self-interviewing. The new module named Confirmit Kiosk is expected to improve the way customer experience is measured and how businesses manage customer feedback.
Fully integrated with the web-centric Confirmit platform and its suite of survey, reporting and feedback management tools, companies can deploy the Confirmit Kiosk software on computer stations across thousands of malls, shops and/or hotels to measure customer experience instantly and onsite. Confirmit Kiosk also enables businesses to conduct automatic follow-up of customer complaints in addition to continuous quality assurance of its customer facing operations.

ALBANY, N.Y. - Wayne Wilson is cheered when the computerized voice tells him his blood pressure and heart rate are holding steady. The 82-year-old Albany resident stays on top of his health with weekly checkups at an electronic kiosk in the lobby of the Beverwyck assisted-living home. On this day, he finds out he's even lost half a pound. ''That means I can have ice cream tonight," he said. Wilson is part of a growing number of people monitoring their vital signs through ''telemedicine," which allows health care providers to perform checkups by video. The technology can be as basic as the kiosks Wilson uses, which transmit blood pressure and weight readings to a remote facility monitored by a nurse. On more sophisticated devices, live doctors pop up on a screen to listen to everything from a patient's heartbeats to lung waves. Some machines let patients dangle a camera over injuries so doctors can instruct them how to properly dress a wound.
